A Brave New Cyber-world
In a perfect world, there would be no wars, hatred, prejudice, and
life-ending diseases.
Though this utopia is great to imagine, it does not present a realistic vision.
However, within the next half century there will be advancements in technology, developments in
medicine, and improvements in the government that are plausible and realistic. One of the areas that will change in the next 50 years will be computer technology.
Computers will be a vital part of the functioning of the world. Accordingly, every student in every
middle and high school in the country will have plenty of access to the latest in computer
technology provided by the government. Also, the drastic decrease in the amount of fossil fuels
available 50 years from now will make it an absolute must for other forms of energy to be
identified and put to effective use. Solar power and hydropower will be identified as such sources. As computer technology continues to grow and change, medical technology will grow
also.
Fifty years from now certain childhood diseases and common illnesses that are presently called
epidemic will be nonexistent or rare at the very least. Chickenpox, mumps, measles, and ear
infections will no longer exist. Also, certain diseases that are presently fatal will be identified
faster, and treated in a timely manner, decreasing the number of deaths from these diseases. The final area that will have improved in 50 years will be the government. The
next amendment to the United States constitution will be the abolition of the electoral college.
Advances in technology, and the rapid availability of information will make this unfair process of
choosing our nation’s leader obsolete. The United States government will also improve social programs. The Social Security benefit plan and
public education will be the first two programs to be reformed.
A drastic change in the process of awarding Social Security benefits would give senior citizens the amount of money they
earned. Education reform would ensure that all schools provide adequate
facilities. Currently, only a small percentage of them do so. These are just a few of the changes that will occur between now and 2051.
The future may not be a bring utopia, but it will be a place where advances in technology,
developments in medicine, improvements in government will make the future very different. |
