Forget about the laws. Forget social mores and what's "expected" of you. It's hampering your mind.
Now stop, sit and look. Observe what the world around you looks like without someone else telling you what to see and how to see it.
Step back and take a peek at the world as a neutral observer.
Look at the world unbound. See how it's put together, how much of it is held together with chewing gum and how much is welded firmly in place.
How does it make you feel, this world in front of you?
Some things make you smile; others make you cringe. And then there are those things that will make you rise to your feet, make your voice boom and make you demand justice.
But this is a complex and diverse world, and the differences between us can be overwhelming. Often, what you want to fight for is different from what I want to fight for. It will be different, too, for my mother, your mailman and the man who pumps gas down the block. It's not always easy to find a place to sort out what you think or feel. Or to just have fun, without feeling guilty about it.
That's why there's UNBOUND. UNBOUND authors aren't restricted by an assigned topic. Like you, they are asked to feel passionately about something. Then, they are asked to explain why anyone should care.
The staff at UNBOUND realizes life is too important to agree with one person's ideology without thinking about how much sense it makes. They encourage you to think for yourself.
That's why you won't see the same topics covered here as somewhere else. Instead you'll feel the pulse of America as it courses through veins below a skin of presidential scandal and beanie babies. Sometimes the message is fun, sometimes it's urgent. But always, the message is unbound.
Now comes the hard part, you need to be unbound. Don't just trust what we say, speak it yourself. UNBOUND isn't just about writers and editors. It's about readers, too. Tell us what you think.
