“However, some sources believe that the sandwich was originally composed of thin sliced rib eye topped with a pizza sauce (now known as a pizza steak) until Pat's put cheese on it."

The Recipe

The Ingredients (this recipe serves 4)
24 oz thin sliced rib eye or eye roll steak
6 table spoons of Soya bean oil
Cheese (Cheez Whiz recommended, American or Provolone works fine)
4 crusty Italian rolls
1 large Spanish onion
Sweet green and red peppers sautéed in oil (optional)
Mushrooms sautéed in oil (optional)
Making the Cheese Steaks
1. Heat an iron skillet or a non stick pan over medium heat
2. Add 3 tbsp of oil to the pan and sauté the onions to desired 'doneness'
3. Remove the onions
4. Add the remaining oil and sauté the slices of meat quickly on both sides.
5. Melt the Cheez Whiz in a double boiler or in the microwave
6. Place 6 oz of the meat into the rolls
7. Add onions, and pour the Cheez Whiz over top
8. Garnish with hot or fried sweet peppers, mushrooms, ketchup
9. Put on the theme song to the first Rocky movie and enjoy!

Through the years, the Philadelphia cheese steak has evolved into a versatile treat packed with a flavorsome punch. While the lure of a New Orleans muffaletta or a Coney Island knish is ample, any cheese steak purist will undoubtedly fancy and favor the Pat’s King of Steaks experience. In fact, the CIA has sought "to insure the unalienable right of all Americans to enjoy the pursuit of happiness that comes from the partaking of a delicious cheese steak sandwich." God bless America (and The Cheesesteak Institute of America).
